Getting Happy at Hog Island Oyster Co (San Francisco)

Platter of Oysters at Hog Island Oyster Bar (San Francisco)

We’ve said it before: We. Love. Oysters. And the place we prefer to go to get oysters is the Hog Island Oyster Co. at the San Francisco Ferry Building. Saturday is the day when we usually go there, visiting the excellent farmer’s market. Last time we were at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, we picked up a couple dozen oysters and brought them back home to shuck and eat.

But you know, shucking oysters, especially if you’re not expert at it, is a real pain. And two dozen oysters goes almost too quickly when you’ve got three oyster-obsessed eaters (yes, our 6 year-old Daniel loves them too!) Wouldn’t it be better to have someone else do all the work? I know I’d be much happier.

2008 Year in Review

Thanks for the Memories

2008 was literally a banner year for the House of Annie food blog. The blog has been in existence since October 2006, but it was only a chronicle of the things we were eating and not a serious effort to participate in the wider food blog community. Then in Christmas 2007, just over a year ago, we met face to face with Bee of the Rasa Malaysia food blog.

We had been fans of her site for a while, so it was a real thrill to get to meet with an experienced food blogger. She encouraged us to make our blog better, to take it to the next level. She also invited us to join the Foodbuzz community as a Featured Publisher. We signed up in March.

Getting Serious

That was the impetus for us to really get serious about the blog. In our “Spring is Coming” post, we took on a new attitude and a new purpose. We would write better posts, provide better recipes, shoot better pictures. We would even get organized and make a better design.

El Paisa Taqueria (San Jose)

These very well might be contenders for the best tacos in San Jose.

El Paisa Taqueria in San Jose

El Paisa Taqueria in San Jose

We’ve driven by this taco stand/truck at the corner of Senter Rd and Southside in South San Jose many times. We would always see a long line of customers stretching back from the stand into the full parking lot. Long lines are a good sign. I made a mental note to stop in one day.

Merry Christmas from House of Annie

Hawaiian angel Christmas ornament

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!

— Luke 2:10-14 (New King James Version)

We wish you and your family peace, love and joy this Christmas season!

Merry Christmas, Mele Kalikimaka, and Selamat Hari Natal!
